This specification is for the purchase of LANGALLOY 825 tube in a hot extruded and annealed condition. All material shall be melted by electric arc and/or electric induction furnace process. Subsequent further refining by Electric Slag Refining (ESR)* is allowed. This material is to be manufactured broadly in accordance with ASTM B425 11; UNS N08825; Werkstoff Number 2.4858 and is subject to the requirements below.
Manufacturer quality management system shall have been approved to ISO 9000 or equivalent.
The manufacturer shall hold PED 2014/68/EU approval certification.
Supplier records for material must be auditable and retrievable for 10 years.
All material shall be melted by electric arc and/or electric induction furnace process. Subsequent further refining by Electric Slag Refining (ESR)* is allowed.
Melting practice is to be reported on the certification.
The method of analysis shall be ASTM E1473 or equivalent standard. Elements not specified, (except deoxidants), shall not be deliberately added. Any individual element not specified below but greater than 0.25% shall be reported.
Chromium | 19.50 – 23.50 |
Molybdenum | 2.50 – 3.50 |
Nickel | 38.00 – 46.00 |
Iron | 22.0 min |
Copper | 1.50 – 3.00 |
Titanium | 0.60 – 1.20 |

Material is to be hot extruded and straightened; the hot working process is to be reported on the certification.
All material shall be sound with no Bursts, Flakes, Cracks, Seams, Laps or other undesirable defects.
NO weld repair is permitted.
Bars shall be delivered in a hot worked and annealed condition. Furnaces shall be controlled to the requirements of AMS2750 or API 6A (Annex M) latest revision.
The mill shall describe furnace control in a detailed heat treatment procedure, which shall conform to AMS2750 or API 6A (Annex M) latest revision.
All equipment used in the pyrometric control or recording of furnace temperature shall comply with the requirements of AMS2750 or API 6A (Annex M) latest revision and shall have their calibration traceable to the applicable National Standard, (e.g. NPL or NIST).
Annealing shall be carried out in the temperature range 930°C – 980°C allowing sufficient time for full annealing to take place. This shall be followed by quenching in air or water. Full details of the heat treatment process shall be provided on the test certificate.
Batch release tests shall come from the actual production material being supplied not a separate test coupon. The tests listed below shall be carried per lot. A lot shall be defined as the same size, processed by the same methods, of the same heat and heat treatment batch. All processing shall be completed prior to test material removal.
Samples shall be taken from mid wall thickness in the longitudinal direction and tested at room temperature.
Test methods shall be in accordance with ASTM E8, ASTM A370/EN ISO148-1/EN ISO 6892-1; Hardness tests shall comply with ASTM E10/EN ISO6506-1; conversions with ASTM E-140.
Property | Direction | Bar Diameter (mm) | Value Max. |
---|---|---|---|
Hardness | all | all | <327HBW (<35HRC) |
0.2% Proof Stress | Longitudinal | all | 241 MPa min. |
Tensile Strength (UTS) | Longitudinal | all | 590 MPa min. |
Elongation 5.65√So/4D | Longitudinal | all | 30% min. |
Reduction in Area | Longitudinal | all | (info only) |
Hardness tests will be taken at the surface and mid wall thickness; a minimum of 3 readings is required at each location.
Grain size shall be determined according to ASTM E112; the average grain size shall be ASTM No. 3 or finer. Average grain size shall be determined at mid wall thickness.
All material shall pass and be certified to the ultrasonic inspection procedures in accordance with ASTM A388, with acceptance to API 6A PSL3: Material shall be examined by a Level II certified examiner qualified to SNT-TC-1A / EN473 or equivalent.
All tubes shall undergo 100% visual inspection and shall be free from surface defects such as laps, cracks and machining marks.
The testing described in Sections 5.0, 8.0, and 9.0 shall be carried out on each batch/melt of material as relevant and reported on the test certificate. The testing described in Section 10.0 shall be carried out on each individual tube and also be reported on the test certificate & a separate certificate.
Straightness tubes shall exhibit a chord height deviation of less than 0.2% (1 in 500).
The tube should line marked with Langalloy 825 tube size and melt and cast numbers. The ends must cut square. Other markings may be specified on individual orders with details depending on tube diameter and marking machinery available.
Certification shall meet EN 10204 - 3.1
The certificate should state conformance to the following specifications (latest revision):
